Can an agency guarantee citations in ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews?
No. Nobody controls what an engine cites: OpenAI, Google and Perplexity change retrieval and ranking continuously and sell no placement inside organic answers. An agency can guarantee the work, the reporting cadence and a published timeline — and show citations as dated screenshots. A guaranteed citation is a sales line, not a service.

What can honestly be guaranteed
Deliverables and transparency: the audit on a date, the prompt map, fixes shipped in your codebase, pages published with named authors, mentions attempted and reported, and a monthly report where every number has a screenshot behind it. Those are contractual. Positions and citations are outcomes of them, not promises.
What a “guarantee” usually hides
Either a prompt set chosen to be trivially winnable — your own brand name — or tactics that Google’s spam policies describe and penalise. Ask which prompts the guarantee covers and how they were chosen; the answer ends the conversation one way or the other.
