Measurement and money

How is GEO measured?

Against a fixed prompt map: for each prompt and engine, whether the brand is named, whether its site is cited, and who else is — recorded monthly as screenshots. The roll-ups are citation rate (prompts where you’re cited divided by prompts run), share of answer versus named competitors, and AI-engine referral sessions in GA4. Not a single “AI visibility score”.

The prompt map is the unit of measurement

Fifty to a few hundred prompts, grouped by buyer persona and intent, agreed before work starts and held constant month to month. Changing the prompts changes the score, so additions are tracked separately from the baseline.

Three numbers a board can read

Citation rate per engine; share of answer against the three to five competitors you name; and sessions and conversions arriving from AI engines in GA4. Everything else — sentiment, position in the answer, source mix — is diagnostic detail behind those three.

What tools can and can’t do

Tracking tools run prompts at scale and save time; they also smooth over the variance between runs and can’t show you the screenshot. Use them for breadth, keep manual dated screenshots for the prompts that matter, and never report a number you can’t show.

The free audit runs the prompts for your category across every engine and shows, screenshot by screenshot, who gets cited — and the three things to fix first.
